Introducing Pickles & Cream Ice Cream

Herrell's® announces a new flavor addition which has some folks very excited and others putting on a sour face! Yes, sour Pickles & Cream.

“I’ve been working on versions of the flavor for quite a bit of time now,” says Judy Herrell, owner of Herrell's®, “but finally got it where I like it!”

Pickles & Cream is more savory than the average Herrell's® flavor, smells delightful, and has a full, salty-sour pickle flavor. Made using pickle spices and real pickled cucumbers, the flavor was quite difficult to create. “That amount of vinegar…wow.” Judy says, “Really challenged all of my knowledge of ice cream making, but it sure was fun.”

Herrell says that making the flavor had nothing to do with the old wives' tale of pregnancy and pickles. It had more to do with having the pickles around and playing with her food! “After the Passover holiday last year, our distributor had cases of Israeli pickled cucumbers on sale, so we picked a couple of cases up to munch on, and then I thought, hmmm, Pickles and Ice Cream. It sounded like a fun project! Several customers helped out by tasting different levels of the experiments with me, and we had a lot of fun.”

Herrell admits the flavor is not for all people’s tastes, but it is unique. First, you really have to like sour pickles, and then you have to be able to come to terms with them in ice cream! Judy thinks there is no middle ground on this one—you either like it or you don’t!

Pickles & Cream is out now until it returns again in rotation, as it is one of our over 370 flavors. If you like it, you can always request that it be made again by adding it to the flavor request list in the store.
